BATTLE NEAR HUE
i U.S. Marines Engaged (N.Z. Press Assn.—Copyright) SAIGON, June 26. A multi-battalion force of American Marines, strongly backed by artillery and air fire, was heavily engaged with enemy troops north of Hue, an American military spokesman said today. It was not known whether the marines were fighting North Vietnamese regulars or Viet Cong units, the spokesman said. First reports from the battle which began yesterday in flat marshlands 16 miles north-west of Hue, said enemy casualties were high.
