Poisoning For Rabbits
Sir,—Once more poison has been laid north of North Bhach. Might I ask the Rabbit Board how many times JOBO has been used in this area over the last few years? It must be in the region of eight times, Poison must be proving ineffective when it has to be [aid so frequently. What number of rabbits have been killed in past poisonings? No doubt more local people will lose their dogs, as quite a few went west last time. As one who has exercised dogs in this area for many years, I have found the rabbits pretty few and far between. —Yours, etc., M. D. McNEILL.
June 17, 1966. [The secretary of the Plains Rabbit Board (Mr R. J. H. Boyd) replies: “The matter ‘i of rabbit destruction work in this and other areas and the duties of the Plains Rabbit Board, under the Rabbits Act, 1955, and other regulations, were fully covered by newspaper statements in September, 1965. The board confirms that it takes every precaution to safeguard the public and domestic animals, and in turn the public are asked, during poisoning operations, to exercise care and accept their share of precaution.”]
