Amuri Hospital
Sir,—The Amur! Hospital was closed at the end of January, 1961, not 10 years ago, as stated in “The Press.” It may not be generally known that the hospital was built by voluntary donations subsidised by the Government. Some chronic cases that required only nursing were sent there from the Christchurch Hospital. It rendered good service to Amuri County for 40 years. My children and some of my grandchildren were born there, as were a present Christchurch Hospital doctor and a doctor’s wife. If the money could be raised to build it in those hard times and carry it on through the slump and war period. There was no excuse for closing it when New Zealand never had such prosperity.—Yours, etc., ONE OF THE DONORS. June 22, 1966.
