■RUNHOLDERS want more money made available for research into noxious weeds. At this week’s annual conference of South Island high country sub-sections of Federated Fanners Mr R. J. Lee,

of Cardrona, Central Otago, claimed that too much emphasis had been placed on oversowing and topdressing and not enough on noxious weeds. It was being found that noxious weeds in seeds were

being spread from Canterbury to Southland and into other areas, said Mr Lee, and there was no way of controlling them. Farmers in Otago had been concerned at importing nodding thistle in seed.
