Weatherly Favoured For Bay Of Plenty
"The Press" Special Service AUCKLAND. Weatherly, a five-year-old, and the nine-year-old gelding, Craddock, have continued in the highest favour for the £l5OO Winter Handicap at Tauranga today. Craddock will be trying for his second win in succession.
Weatherly has managed a couple of fifths lately which suggested she might score again very soon. Except for a few of the tail-enders in the handicap, the field is well up to strength and there are any number of possibilites. Anne Lane, the runner-up to Craddock at Te Awamutu, should again go well, and Crojack and Roganne are other good prospects. Craddock and Anne Lane were clearly the best in the Woodstock Stakes, over a mile and a quarter, at Te Awamutu last Saturday. Weatherly, taking into account her very wide barrier position, nevertheless ran well and Crojack, after losing ground coming to the straight, also acquited himself creditably.
Likely To Win
If Wairere Lass runs anywhere near as well as she did when successful at Te Awamutu last Saturday, she should win the second leg of the T.A.B. double, the June Handicap, seven furlongs. Rossfield and Bottle Top are the likely minor placegetters. In the other events Mr Fagan, Gray Knight and Revello look excellent prospects. A three-year-old colt by Le Fllou from Innes Lass, Mr Fagan will be trying to win his second race on end and third from his last four starts when he tackles the Club Handicap.
Gray Knight is in the Oropi Handicap and Revello is in the Bay of Plenty Steeplechase. The track will be heavy.
