Contrary to common belief, the promise has been repeated by Prophets and Apostles, throughout the Word of GOD. So important is this doctrine Paul was moved to exclaim, “AND NOW I STAND AND AM JUDGED for the hope of the promise made of God unto our fathers.”—Act 26, 6. PUBLIC NOTICES NORTH CANTERBURY ACCLIMATISATION SOCIETY REPORT BY COUNCIL OF JUNE 8, 1966, ON RECOMMENDATIONS PASSED AT THE LAST ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING EXTENSION OF FISHING SEASON: Recommendation: “That the Selwyn River remain open for one extra month for one year only.” Decision: The Council could not support this recommendation as at the oresent time anglers already have seven months of fishing and it is felt that no good purpose could be served by fishing the spawning run during a period of low water In the river; furthermore this arrangement would conflict with the shooting season. However, the fishing season in the Ashley River was extended for one month to the end of May for experimental purposes. SALMON STOCKING IN LAKE HAWDON:
Recommendation: “That the stocking of Lake Hawdon with salmon be doubled this year, also that investigations be undertaken to remove competitors in the lake and in Slovens Creek, white the creek should be checked for obstructions such as trees and logs.” Decision: The Council approves the recommendation in principle and endeavours will be made to carry out additional re-stocking of Lake Hawdon subject to the limitations imposed by the facilities available and the restocking requirements of other areas, also the Council cannot ensure the complete removal of competitors from the Lake and Slovens Creek but an inspection will be made of the Creek to check for obstructions. SPAWNING ACCESS AT HARPER DIVERSION: Recommendation: “That the Council investigate provision of access for spawning fish traveling up the Harper Diversion from Lake Coleridge.” Decision: After giving this matter full consideration, the Council considers that the possibility of losing young landlocked salmon and rainbow trout fallowing floods in the Harper River would far outweigh the advantages to be gained from the provision of spawning access at the Harper Diversion. OPENING OF LAKE SUMNER FOR GAME SHOOTING: Recommendation: “That the Game Committee give consideration to the opening of Lake Sumner for Game Shooting.” Decision: As this matter has already been, and is stiibl currently under discussion with the land owners and the local bodies concerned, the Council considers that this matter should be held open until finality is reached.
