BALLOON IN ORBIT

(N.Z.P.A.-Reuter—Copyright) VANDENBERG AIR FORCE BASE, June 23.

The United States today successfully placed in a polar orbit a huge silvery balloon {that will aid scientists in the j precise mapping of the earth’s surface.

Called P.A.G.E.O.S. (for passive geodetic earth-orbiting satellite) One, the satellite unfurled its balloon on schedule and space agency officials reported three hours after launching “all went well. It looks good up there.”
