Overseas Investment

Sir, —How can the Government allow foreigners to have title to New Zealand soil? 20,000 acres of God’s own country to be lost without a shot fired, surrendered to the almighty dollar. The sale of this land should be stopped. 125,600 New Zealanders have been killed and wounded since 1890 defending the 66,390,700 acres of New Zealand, one casualty for every 500 acres, 40 for this piece of land alone. Could the Government amend the Land Transfer Act to exclude foreigners having title to New Zealand soil? It could be Russians next time. Why not?—Yours, etc., FAT T. SHEEHAN.

June 21, 1966. [This correspondence is now closed. Ed., “The Press.”]
