Functions Of Committee
The present and future function of the women* committees of the ! National Council of Churches in New Zealand were discussed at the biennial, conference .and annual meeting. Visitors from the Greek Orthodox Church and the Maori section of the National Council of Churches attended the meeting, as well as representatives from branches throughout New Zealand. The Moderator of the Presbyterian Assembly, the very Rev. M. W. Wilson, addressed the meeting on the unity of the church. He reminded members that it was “not a
mathematical unity, but a personal unity, constituted and maintained by love, manifesting itself in unity of purpose and action, expressing itself in self-giving for others.”
The Rev. D. Taylor, general Secretary of the National Council of Churches, expressed appreciation of the support given by the women’s committees to the National Council of Churches and to ecumenical affairs in general. He spoke of the Pacific consultation in the Loyalty Islands from which he had just returned. The Rev. R. O’Grady, assistant general secretary, emphasised that the ecumenical movement was called to wit-
ness, to service and to fellowship. Officers elected were:— Chairman, Mrs R. H. T. Hamilton; vice-chairman. Miss J. L. Morland; secretary, Mrs M. W. Wilson; treasurer, Mrs H. Matthews: minute secretary, Mrs R. E. Glensor; World Day of Prayer committee, Mesdames E. R. Mangin (convener), R. H. T. Hamilton, J. L. Morland, R. Chapman, R. E. Glensor, A. Pyatt and A. M. Charnley and Brigadier A. Hay and Miss W. Harding; literature committee, Mesdames W. M. Davies (convener), R. H. T. Hamilton, J. L. Morland, E. R. Mangin, and S. E. Woods, and Mises P. M. Robinson, J. L. Morland and M. Mullan.
