fpHE Japanese Isuzu Bellett 1500 c.c. saloon, (above) will be assembled in New Zealand later this year, and will be sold for about £llOO. The Isuzu company makes a large range of cars and commercial vehicles, but initially only the Bellett will be as-
sembled in New Zealand. Other models will be introduced when import licensing permits. The Bellett has a four-cyl-inder o.h.v. engine producing 68 b.h.p. at 5000 r.p.m. The four-speed manual gearbox has synchromesh on the top
three forward ratios only.; Rear suspension is independ-; ent, by swing axles, and the; rack and pinion steering has; three turns from lock to lock.; The car is 13ft 2in longl and 4ft Ilin wide. Laden I ground clearance is 8.1in.1 Turning circle is said to be! 32.6 ft, and t’je makers quote I maximum speeds in the gears i as 24 m.p.h., 39 m.p.h., 59! m.p.h., and 90 m.p.h. The Bellett has recently been exported to the United States and South America, the Pacific, and several European countries, and in 1964 was introduced into Australia. Since the beginning of last year it has consistently featured among the top 10 car models registered in Australia. The Belletts will be assembled by Campbell Industries Ltd., of Thames, and sold through a chain of dealers throughout New Zealand. The New Zealand importers and distributors are H. H. Moller (Wholesale) Ltd., of New Plymouth, and its associate companies in Auckland and Taranaki.
