‘Fault In Plant Design’
The permanent stokers for the heating plant at Papanui High School had been installed last week, and the plant was heating the building very well, the headmaster (Mr E. Fancy) told a meeting of the board of governors yesterday. However, one serious design fault had been noticed. The master switcboard had been placed directly behind the flues, which was most inconvenient. Because of a danger of burns to the operator, a baffle sheet had been placed between the switchboard and flue, but this had reduced the amount of room further, and was itself a danger. “It is necessary to walk on a lagged pipe to reach the board and the lagging is already showing signs of wear,” Mr Fancy said.
The board decided to ask the Ministry of Works to investigate moving the switchboard to a more suitable position.
Space Treaty.—The United States and Russia will begin talks in Geneva next month on a proposed treaty for cooperation in space exploration, officials said yesterday. —New York, Junlb 22.
