High Disdain Is Hastings Pick

HASTINGS.
Elkayel probably would be favourite for the 11-furlong Winter Handicap, first leg of the T.A.B. double at the Hawke’s Bay meeting tomorrow after his close second to Rainfall in the Cornwall Handicap a few weeks ago.
But he might find It difficult to concede 131 b to High Disdain, whose form lately has been very good.
When Elkayel was beaten narrowly by Rainfall, he comfortably beat the third horse Tatua, which last week outclassed the opposition in , the Booths Gin Handicap at Awapuni.
High Disdain’s win In the Ta Timi jfara Handicap at Otaki was impressive and at his last start he was a fast finishing third in the Foxton Cup after being last-in a big field with half a mile to run.
Dunraven won the Russell Grace Handicap at Wanganui recently so easily that In spite of a weight rise to 8-6, he seems the best prospect for the sevenfurlong Mahora Handicap, second leg of the T.A.B. double. The top-weight. Princess Talaria, has improved with her race at Awapunl last week when she finished ninth. That was her first outing since she won the Port Nicholson Handicap at Trentham in May. The track should be in good order for this time of the season.
