HORNBY SHOULD GO ON WINNING
Hornby is expected to continue its march to its third successive Canterbury Rugby League championship when it meets Papanui in the eighth round tomorrow.
Tomorrow’s series will be the first for the Vivian Cup which is run in conjunction with the second championship round. Should any team other than Hornby win the round a challenge match will be played later in the season. Papanui was defeated by 22 points when the teams met in the first championship round. Although Papanui has shown great improvement since then it is not expected to match Hornby in team-work and effi-; ciency. Both teams have attractive back-lines and strong packs, but Hornby’s ability to fuse the two into one attacking unit may prove decisive. Should this fail there is al-
ways the mighty kicking of L T. Drayton. Marist, now second equal, will be attempting to reverse its first round loss to Linwood. It could well succeed for in that match it was without M. H. Mohi and R. J. A. McKenzie. Tomorrow both will be playing and for the first time for some weeks, R. S. J. Irvine will be fit. Possession will be a vital factor and W. P. Noonan will need to beat N. M. Diggs !(Marist) if Linwood is to keep [the ball away from the dangerous Marist backs. ■ Sydenham and Addington 'are expected to repeat their first round defeats of Christchurch and Kaiapoi, respectively.
