Plan For Farm Workers’ Union

NEW PLYMOUTH, June 21. The Federation of Labour will be asked to form a farm workers’ union, a meeting of Taranaki farm workers agreed tonight at Stratford.

The outline of a basis for a new award was presented. l The proposals included:. Every Saturday to be recog nised as a full day off; all Sunday work to be paid at £1 : an hour with a minimum of four hours; the basic wage] for a five-day 40-hour week to] be £lB 15s; in the case of a 1 married couple the wife to be paid 10s an hour for any, duties; youths under 18 to be paid a minimum of £lO for a five-day week, Sunday! excluded.
