Railway Unbeaten Leader
Railway A withstood a strong challenge from Selwyn to retain its unbeaten record in the A grade inter-club badminton competition.
Selwyn won all three women’s matches, while Railway won all three men’s, and it was not until the mixed doubles had been completed that Railway was assured of victory. A. Duckmanton was in fine form for Railway, but Mrs H. Miller was overwhelmed by Miss B. Gormack. Army won a narrow decision against University, a margin of 15 points being all that separated them. Four of the eight matches went to the advantage set. W. Edgecumbe (Army) was surprisingly beaten by G. Ford and, again, it was not until the mixed doubles had both been won by Army that it struggled into first place. Results were:— Railway B 8, Knox B 2 M. Ford lost to B. Hadlee, 7-15, 17-16, 12-15) K. Hawkins lost to R. Quinn, 15-7, 9-15, 6-15. Miss R. Waites beat Miss L. Wood, 11-2, 8-11, 11-5: Miss E. Chandler beat Miss J. Cuthbert, 11-3, 11-7. Ford and Hawkins beat Hadlee and Quinn, 18-17, 15-11; Misses Waites and Chandler beat Misses Wood and Cuthbert, 15-4, 15-12. Ford and Miss Waites beat Hadlee and Miss Wood, 16-17, 15-10, 15-9; Hawkins and Miss Chandler beat Quinn and Miss Cuthbert, 15-8, 15-10. Railway A 5, Selwyn 3 A. Duckmanton beat R. Hall, 15-9, 15-3: R. Miller beat H. Williams, 15-3, 11-15, 18-13; Mrs M. Miller lost to Miss B. Gormack, 5-11, 3-11; Miss D. French lost to Mrs A. Byan, 7-11, 4-11. Duckmanton and Miller beat Hall and Williams, 15-6, 15-12: Mrs MiMer and Miss French lost to Miss Gormack and Mrs Ryan, 10-15, 6-15.

Edgecumbe and Mri Forbes beat Ford and Miss Tucker, 15-10, 15-9; Serra and Miss Williams beat Um and Miss Ching, 11- 15-12, 15-5.
