More Subdued Trend By New Zealand Shares
New Zealand shares followed a more subdued trend as post-Budget momentum slowed. Falls just shaded rises, with key stocks easier than the rest of the market. A new market equilibrium has to be established in the restricted trading.
Brisk business in Ross and Glendining pushed the price up 5d to 14s 6d, and United Empire Box rose Id more to Ils. Neill, Cropper shares rose 9d to 27s and the notes 6d to 255. British Office Supplies notes gained Is 3d to 35s 3d in first trading for some weeks. Whitcombe and Tombs recovered 3d to 17s 6d.
Bank of New Zealand Finance lost another 3d to Ils 6d and leading brewery stocks, Dominion down 6d at 17s 3d and New Zealand down 3d at 14s, slipped for the first time since the Budget. Alex Harvey at 33s 9d and Mannings at 22s 6d each fell Is. National Electric fell 6d to 6s 3d, New Zealand Newspapers 3d to 66s 6d, New Zealand Refining 6d to 40s and Rex Aviation 6d to 14s 6d.
