HEMS THAT PEEL OFF
Demonstration In Knitwear (Special Crspdt. NZ P A.) LONDON, June 22. A British knitwear firm has launched the “adjustaknit”— a do-it-yourself hemline. Woolmark dresses and skirts with the “adjustaknit” hem can be reduced to mini-length in a matter of minutes—and still' retain a perfect welt edge. | At an International Wool; Secretariat show at London’s Dorchester Hotel, the idea was shown to manufacturers. Models unpeeled eight inches off their skirts, stripes and frills were torn away one by one, a full-length evening dress was reduced to cocktail-; length, and flared pyjama-type trousers fell away to become a divided skirt. Each garment is fitted with a series of draw-threads at one inch intervals from the bottom of the skirt hem. When the skirt needs to be shortened, one thread is lifted with a pin, cut, and pulled out. The second thread underneath is pulled out—and the entire section of the skirt! below the thread line falls away. Women of both sft 2in and sft lOin will now be able to buy identical knitted dresses and adjust the length to suit themselves.' Men who are i large but short can take inches off the bottom of a sweater.; And wool garments that have stretched, during washing can be reduced back to their oris- j Inal shape. |
