Test Cricketer, R. Blunt, Dead

(Special Crspdt. N.Z.P.A.) LONDON, The death has occurred in London of the former New Zealand international cricketer, Mr Roger Blunt.

Mr Blunt was aged 65. He played in nine tests for New Zealand, the first being in the 1929 season against England at home. He also represented New Zealand against the touring South African team in 1931 and later that year was a member

of the New Zealand team that toured England. Mr Blunt is one of two New Zealanders to score more than 300 runs in an innings in first-class cricket. He scored 338 not out for Otago against Canterbury at I Christchurch in the 1931-32 ; season. ■ The only other New Zealand triple-century scorer is B. Sutcliffe, with scores of 385 for Otago against Canterbury in 1952-53 and 355 for

Otago against Auckland at Dunedin in 1949-50. In his not out score at Christchurch Mr Blunt, with W. Hawkesworth, set a New Zealand record of 184 runs for the last wicket. In the Lord’s test on the 1931 tour Blunt and M. L. Page put on 142 for the fourth wicket, New Zealand’s best fourth-wicket partnership in tests against England.
