HELP FOR C.O.R.S.O.
Young People Praised The extra teams of collectors which C.0.R.5.0. was able to “whistle up at a moment’s notice" contributed greatly to the efficiency of the annual Freedom-From-Hunger campaign collection last Saturday, the district organiser (Mr G. H. Coley) said yesterday. Most of the collecting was done by 90 church groups, some of which needed assistance. For instance, a Linwood church group found itself with four instead of the expected 30 collectors. In answer to a call from Mr Coley, 19 girls from Villa Maria College were ready in five minutes to supplement the Linwood team. Similar assistance was also given by the Burnside High School, Christchurch Boys’ High School, St. Mary’s College, and Sacred Heart College. Mr Coley said. “We have been very pleased with the response by young people to the C.0.R.5.0. appeal. Although we have had this sort of thing in other years, it has never been so effective.”
Mr Coley said that several groups of young children had been doing things for C.0.R.5.0. on their own account.
“A good deal of information is being passed on to young people through social studies and Bible-study classes,” said Mr Coley. “The needs of the hungry people are being made known to them. All this is .good practice and good training.”
