SMUGGLED SUITCASE

Rain Stops Search (,VZ. Press Association! AUCKLAND, June 22. Heavy rain at noon today stopped a search by police and customs officers for a suitcase smuggled from the freighter Wainui while she was lying in the stream late on Friday night. | Two men were each fined £75 in the Magistrate’s Court yesterday for smuggling. In Court it was said that about midnight on Friday one defendant was seen walking to the stern of the Wainui carrying a suitcase. At the same time a high-powered launch was seen cruising near the freighter’s stern. The master was called and the crewman was seen walking back without the suitcase. The launch had made off at high speed. The search was in two Auckland rubbish tips.
