CHANGE IN PLAN

Nth. Motorway Inter-change The northern part of the Cam road interchange on the new northern motorway might not be built at present, the Kaiapoi Borough Council was informed on Monday evening in a letter from the Ministry of Works.

It was proposed to build a four-lane motorway north to the Cam road deviation, and two lanes from there to Pinehaven. the letter said. It had become clear that the northern half of the interchange would probably not be justified until the motorway was extended to Saltwater creek. Traffic engineering design, as well as construction, would be much simplified if the ramps concerned were left until four-laning to Pinehaven was undertaken. It was decided to ask for a meeting on the site with Ministry of Works officials so that the matter could be discussed.
