MAGISTRATE’S COURT Disqualified Drivers Fined £40 Each

Two men who pleaded guilty to charges of driving while disqualified were each fined £4O and had their periods of disqualification extended by 18 months when they appeared before Mr E. A. Lee, S.M., in the Magistrate’s Court yesterday. Anthony Ronald Dillimore, aged 28, a company manager (Mr R. G. Blunt), was charged with driving while disqualified on June 15 in Armagh street. Mr Blunt said that at the time of the offence there was an application for partial I exemption from the disqualifij cation during business hours. I Dillimore’s wife, who normally drove the car, had had to go home ill, Mr Blunt said. Dillimore had been pushing the car from meter space to meter space until he finally decided to take it to a car park. The reason for this was the attention the car had been getting from traffic officers. “I take a serious view of your driving,” the Magistrate said to Dillimore. “You have been disqualified four times, and I feel that each disqualification is justified.” Alan Keith Perkins, aged 26, a boilennaker (Mr L. M. O’Reilly), was convicted of driving while disqualified in Barbadoes street on May 29. Mr O’Reilly said that Penkins drove because it was necessary to take a pregnant woman to Lincoln. As there were no buses, Perkins was the only person who could provide transport. “I clearly ought to send you to prison,” the Magistrate said, “but because of the situation you will be fined.” FINED £7 IDs Gregory Richard Rowlands, aged 18, a steelworker, was convicted and fined £7 10s when he pleaded guilty to a charge ot permitting an unlicensed person to drive in St. Asaph street on April 14. His wife, Doria Rowlands, aged 17, was convicted and fined £7 10s when she pleaded guilty to a charge of driving without a driver’s licence on April 14. For the defendants, Mr A. Hearn said that Rowlands had been teaching his wife to drive while he was disqualified. FINED £4 Gavin Earl Cantrick, aged 20, a mechanic, pleaded not guilty to a charge of failing to stop tor a school patrol on February 28. He was represented by Mr P. G. S. Penlington. After the prosecution evidence, Cantrick changed his plea to guilty. He was convicted and fined £4. THEFT OF £2O Maurice James Ward, aged 38, a salesman (Mr G. R. Lascelles), was convicted and remanded in custody to June 27 for sentence on a charge of theft of £2O as a servant of Eastmans Shoe Stores, Ltd., between June 3 and June 16. He pleaded guilty. Sergeant V. F. Townshend said that the accused had said that as far as he could remember he had taken only £5 from the till on three occasions. All the money was spent on liquor. STOLE CIGARETTES Wayne Curtis Wheat, aged 18, unemployed, was convicted and remanded in custody to June 27 for sentence, when he pleaded guilty to theft of 200 cigarettes, valued at £1 ss, the property of the American Hamburger Bar, on June 20. FINED £2 10s Johannes Hendrlckus Naber, a commercial grower, was fined £2 10s on a charge of permitting a person to ride on a trailer in a position liable to cause Injury. He pleaded not guilty.
