FIGHTING INNINGS

Miss Doull Bats 4|lir (N.Z.P.A.-Reuter—Copyright) SCARBOROUGH. The opener, Miss J. Doull, who batted nearly four and a half hours for 74, helped the New Zealand women’s cricket team to make a fighting recovery against England on the second day of a threeday match yesterday. At the close of play, New Zealand had scored 165 for nine in reply to England’s total of 273 for six declared.

New Zealand, struggling at the start of the day when it resumed two wickets down for eight runs, was in serious trouble until Miss Doull’s patient innings prevented a complete break-through. She took three hours 10 minutes to reach 50 and shared a fourth-wicket stand of 93 with Miss C. Oyler. After tea, Miss J. Moorhouse took four wickets for 10 runs and New Zealand finished the day 108 runs behind with one first innings wicket to fall.
