WEAPONS STOLEN

Thieves Force Armoury (N.Z. Press Association) AUCKLAND, June 21. The police are inquiring into the theft of automatic weapons from the Ponsonby drill hall early on Monday. The thieves broke into the locked armoury and stole six Stirling sub-machine-guns, three automatic rifles and seven pistols. No ammunition was taken

The chief of staff at Northern Military District head, quarters, Lieutenant-Colonel I. R Diggle, said the weapons were stored in a locked arm oury inside the locked building. The rifles were in a rack secured with a bar. Colonel Diggle said the building was checked by the caretaker on his rounds at 5 a.m. The theft was found three hours later. Two months ago, a sub-machine-gun was stolen from an armoury at Papakura camp.
