Nelson Woman To Stand For Labour (N.Z. Press Association) HASTINGS, June 21. Mrs Sonya Davies, aged 42, of Nelson, has been selected as the Labour candidate for Hastings at the General Election. She will be the first woman to stand for the Hastings electorate. There were only two nominations. The other nominee was Mr W. T. Bennett, a Hastings councillor. Mrs Davies is a member of the Nelson City Council, served nine years on the Nelson Hospital Board, is secretary of the Nelson Labour Representation Committee and is a member of the national executive of the Labour Party. Her husband is a trade union secretary. They have two children.
