Obituary MR B. C. WARNES
(N.Z. Press Association: WELLINGTON, June 20. The death occurred in Wellington on Saturday of Mr B. C. Warnes, journalist and businessman, in his 90th year. Mr Warnes, who was born and educated in Greymouth, came to Wellington in the early 1900’s and bought the “Hutt and Petone Chronicle." which he ran until the 1914-18 war. when he leased it. He resumed the proprietorship of the “Chronicle” after the war, but later disposed of it. In 1921, the firm of Warnes and Stephenson, Ltd., brought out for the first time, as a Saturday-night publication, the “New Zealand Sportsman.” This business was bought by National Magazines, Ltd., proprietors of “New Zealand Sporting Life,” and Mr Warnes later joined the Publicity ' Department of New Zealand Railways. Later he joined the Army Department where he remained until hte retirement.
