COUNCILLOR RESIGNS
The resignation of Cr. W. E. Cassidy, deputy-chairman and chairman of the finance committee, was accepted with regret by the Waimairi County Council at its meeting last night.
Cr. Cassidy, who represented the Belfast riding, is moving soon to Seddon. He has been a member of the council for 16 years. Cr. M. P. Hobby was elected chairman of the finance committee and Cr. D. B. Rich was elected deputy-chairman, defeating Cr. R. C. Neville. The Clerk (Mr K. Maclachlan) said that an election would be held in the Belfast riding on July 27. Nominations would close at noon on July 8, and the supplementary roll would close on June 29. The chairman (Mr O. C. Mitchell) said that Cr. Cassidy had been chairman of the council, and chairman of most of its committees. The county owed him a debt. Mr Mitchell made a presentation to Cr. Cassidy.
