AID TO FIRE VICTIMS
Family Moves To House Mr and Mrs J. W. Westbury and their five children moved to a State house at 79 Godley avenue, Papanui, yesterday. The family lost practically all its belongings when fire gutted its home at Hollyford road last Friday. The Westburys had since been staying with friends. The assistant manager of the State Advances Corporation (Mr M. Boyd) said it was fortunate a house was available. Many State houses were being renovated.
Many friends and organisations have given the family assistance. Members of the Bryndwr Baptist Church have taken three carloads of bedding and groceries to the Westburys’ temporary home. The North Canterbury Centre of the Red Cross Society has given linen, crockery, cutlery, and bedding.
The president of the branch (Mrs R. I. Drake) said yesterday that the response to the Westburys’ plight had been magnificent. She had also received offers of furniture.
