National Parks
Sir,—ln suggesting that there should be representation of tourist interests on national park boards, the Minister of Tourism has laid himself open to criticism. Under the terms of our National Parks Act, parks should be administered with a view to their preservation in a natural state and their being accessible in this state to New Zealanders. Does Mr Eyre not realise that the development of park areas in the interests of the overseas tourist Industry threatens their being preserved for the purpose described in the Act? Boards committed to conservation principles are the only safeguard we have that our parks will be administered in accordance with these pur-
poses. To advocate that interests hostile to the ideals of the National Parks Act be given a voice on park boards is to betray either an ignorance of the Act or a disregard for its intent which ill becomes a Cabinet Minister. —Yours, etc, JOHN WILSON. June 18, 1966.
