City Works Estimates Total Nearly £1m

The City Council’s works department’s annual expenditure is approaching £lm. This year the council has estimated £987,279 to be spent on works. From rates there will be £677,290.

The collection and disposal of dust and . refuse are estimated to cost £92,200 this year. General maintenance of carriageways is provided for with £64,000; and street cleaning is estimated to cost £lOO,OOO. The biggest item in the bridge reconstruction pro-

Southern ward: Frankleigh street, £3100; Ranelagh terrace by Huntsbury, formation, £2000; Aynsley terrace, by Centaurus road, widen, £2100; Edinburgh street, £3300; Neville street, £3000; Cobham street, £2300; Domain terrace, £3OOO. Eastern District Land purchase.—Barton street, £3500. Street construction.—New Brighton road, (Marshland road to Burwood Park), reconstruction, £10,000; Quinns road, (Hercules street to Hammersley street), £4000; Ferry road (Dyers road to Tunnel road), £2400; Matlock street improvements £2000; Glenroy street reconstruction, £4000; Whitfield street, £2200; Pacific road (Rae street— Britannia street), £7000; Orari street reconstruction, £4000; Marine parade (by Sturdee street), part reconstruction, £3BOO.
