‘Disservice’ To Pupils
(N.X. Press Association) AUCKLAND, June 19. The Auckland ParentTeachers’ Federation was concerned about a recent statement by a New Plymouth magistrate, Mr A. W. Yortt, that the law restricting motorists to 10 m.pJt when passing a school bus was ridiculous, its publicity officer, Mrs A Slack, said today.
Mrs Slack said she thought the Magistrate was doing a great' disservice to schoolchildren by making such a remark.
Mrs Slack said it was realised that speed was king on the road, but surely the loss of a minute or two in enforcing the speed limit was more than worthwhile if only one child was saved from dying or being maimed. The restriction had been In effect since 1967,
