ELECTRICAL WORKERS

New Award Granted Increases in minimum rates for electrical workers in the Marlborough, Nelson, Westland, and Canterbury districts have been granted in a new award made by the Court of Arbitration. Registered journeymen will now be paid a minimum rate of 8s 8d an hour, an increase of 7d an hour, and other journeymen are to be paid a minimum of 8s 2|d an hour, an increase of 6}d. After one month’s continuous service with the same employer the minimum weekly rate will be increased by 23s 4d to £l7 6s 8d for registered journeymen. Others will be paid £l6 8s 4d a week, an increase of 20s lid. Journeymen holding an Advanced Trades Certificate will receive an additional £1 a week. 5s 6d more than previously.

Tool and overall allowance has been increased by )d to 2}d an hour. An allowance of 5s 9d a shift will be paid to shift workers on an afternoon or night shift and where three rotating shifts are worked outside normal hours, 3s 9d a shift will be paid in lieu of 5s 9d.

General provisions of the award require the supply of boots, protective headgear, and safety equipment where necessary.
