Roche Could Not Play (N.Z.P.A.-Reuter—Copyright) LONDON. The 21-year-old Australian, A. D. Roche, who is seeded number two for the Wimbledon tennis championships, will play his first round match tomorrow, one day later than the rest of the field.

Roche has been granted a one-day postponement by the committee after injuring his ankle in the London championships at Queen’s Club on Friday. He had to scratch from the finals of the singles and doubles. R. Emerson thus retained the singles title, becoming the first man in the 76-year-old history of the championships to hold the title four years in succession.

Im their semi-finals on Friday, Emerson beat'R. D. Ralston (United States), 6-4, «-8. 6-4. and Roche defeated M. Rlessen (United States), 6-2. 6-1. Miss F. Durr, the French number one and seventh seed for the Wimbledon title, won the women’s singles title. She’ was far too steady tor Mis's J. Tegart (Australia), whom she beat, 6-4, 6-4. Results of other finals were:— Men’s doubles: Emerson and F. S. Stolle (Australia) walk over Roche and J. D. Newcombe (Australia), scratched. Women’s doubles.—Miss N. Bayion (Argentina) and Miss A. van Zyl (South Africa) beat Miss R. Casals and Mrs B. J. King, 3-6, 6-2, 11-9. Mixed doubles: T. Okker and Miss T. Groonmann (Holland) beat R Leschley (Denmark) and Miss E. Lundquist (Sweden), 6-3, 6-3.
