UNDER-18 TEAM
Half-Back Changes Canterbury will field a new under-18 half-back line against Nelson in the first round of the Junior National Cup at English Park next Saturday. Of the three who played against Wellington in the first round of the Oaten Cup at Queen’s Birthday week-end, D. Almond (Western) and C. Pickrill (Christchurch 8.H.5.) are not available. Rangers provide two of the new half-backs, the 15-year-old G. Adam and M. Blight—and Technical the other, P. Hyland. The team is:— D. Phillips (Shirley 8.H.5.); G. Davis (New Brighton, captain), T. Wilson (Shamrock); Adams, Blight, Hyland; J. Mathias (Shirley 8.H.5.), D. Tullett (Shamrock), A. Smythe (Rangers), S. McAlpine (H. 5.0.8. vice-captain), J. McLennan (Technical). Reserves: A. Nottingham (Rangers), W. Smith (Western), M. Smith (Technical). The Nelson team is: W. Olykan; G. Barbir, W. Tilley; K. Watson, P. Vella. L. Kels; M. Rodwell. D. Rogers. R. Packer, J. Bartlett, R. Kemp. Reserves: R. Dumbleton, K. Bethwick. The match will be played as a curtain-raiser to the local final of the Chatham Cun between Christchurch City and Western. When the under-18 teams of Canterbury and Nelson met In Nelson on Easter Monday, Canterbury won 3-0.
Obstructed Footpath.—-John Milton Smith Oakley, aired 17, a packer, was fined £lO by Messrs J. R. Smith and G. W. Fairweather, Justices of the Peace, in the Magistrate’s Court on Saturday on a charge of obstructing the footpath. He pleaded guilty.
