CHANGE OF NAME

C.O.R.T. Now Republican The Committee to Oppose Royal Tours (C.0.R.T.) changed its name to the Republican Association at a meeting this week. Two new objectives were also adopted in an effort to increase membership and to widen the association's scope. These objectives are to introduce a New Zealand national as the country’s head of State representative, and to dispose of the British head of State and the Crown as the symbol of State power. To promote national feelings by New Zealanders, develop popular resistance to all things alien to the country’s interest, and to foster a "distinctively New Zealand way of life politically, culturally and morally.” A sub-committee was appointed to draft a pamphlet outlining the association’s aims, which were adopted unanimously by about 17 members attending the meeting.
