Australia seems poised to win the men’s singles in the London tennis championships at the Queen’s Club for the thirteenth time in the last 15 years. Both A. Roche and R. Emerson will play in semifinals today for places in the final. Roche meets M. Rlessen (United States) while Emerson meets another American, R. D. Ralston. Emerson has won the title for three years in succession. Both Australians were severely tested in yesterday’s quarter-finals. Emerson struggled through after a three-set match with R. K. Wilson (Britain), and Roche was also in a three-set battle against N. Pietrangeli (Italy). Results: MEN’S SINGLES Quarter-finals.—A. Roche (Australia) beat N. Pietrangeli (Italy), 7-5, 3-6, 6-4: R. Gerrard is the only New Zealander included in the draw for the Wimbledon tennis championships, which begin on Monday. Gerrard will meet E. L. Scott (United States) in the first round, and is in the same quarter of the draw as the Spanish champion, M. Santana. Crookenden In Last Eight (N.Z. Press Assn.—Copyright) CORAL GABLES (Florida). The New Zealander, I. S. Crookenden, of the University of California, entered the quarter-finals of the national collegiate tennis championships yesterday, United Press International reported.

Crookenden, the fourth seed, beat the eighth-seeded J. Cromwell, 6-3, 3-6, 6-3. His next opponent is the No. 2 seed, S. Smith.
