Mackenzie Returning

The New Zealand 440 yards champion, D. W. Mackenzie, returns to Christchurch this afternoon after a stay of two months in the United States. One of his main reasons for making the trip was to compete against top-class opposition in an effort to force his way into the New Zealand Empire Games team for Jamaica.

Mackenzie was originally nominated for the team in the 100 and 440 yards but was passed over in the final selection by the Empire Games selectors (Messrs C. L. S. Cross, K, Moore, and N. Robinson). Along with other nominated athletes not selected, he was given until June 30 to produce times which would force the selectors to include him in the teefc.
