Take-over Offer

The South Island Fertiliser Company, the farmers’ co-operative, is prepared to buy the Dominion Fertiliser Company land and buildings at Seadown.

Replying to remarks made by the chairman of the Dominion Fertiliser Company (Sir Carl Smith) at the annual meeting of the company, Mr Kerr said last night that he would be delighted to meet Sir Carl Smith at any time, but particularly when he had the backing of the Government’s recommendation to the Meat Board

that his company could go ahead. “In spite of all that Sir Carl Smith has said now and in the past, the farmers have still subscribed to the co-opera-tive and have firmly shown to the Meat Board and the Government that what is wanted in South Canterbury is a co-opera-tive fertiliser company. “We have always said, if not directly then indirectly, that we would meet the Dominion Fertiliser Company and offer them a fair price, under arbitration, for their land and buildings at Seadown.”
