Marketing Changes Planned In Russia

(N.Z.P-A. Reuter —Copyright) MOSCOW, June 15. The Soviet Government today announced plans to transform trade “ n consumers’ market, based on the Western concept of supply and demand.

The Trade Minister (Mr Struyev) held out the prospect for Russian families of bright, good-quality goods replacing shoddy products noone will buy, colourful advertising campaigns and department stores where housewives can find all their food requirements under one roof. The first step in the revolutionary plan will be the establishment of a new research institute to study supply and demand. Mr Struyev announced tne plan at a Kremlin conference of trade workers attended by

Mr Brezhnev, the Communist Party leader, and other Soviet leaders. “Old criteria are no longegood for appreciating supply and demand in present conditions.” he said. He called for a thorough study of the social and economic factors affecting the public’s demand for goods. Mr Struyev also demanded a complete reorganisation of Russia’s tiny, uninspired advertising trade. “An end [must be put to unexpressive, ' meaningless, unconvincing standard advertisements,” he 'said.
