Jumpers Excel At Awapuni

“The Press” Special Service

PALMERSTON NORTH. Brevity will now take her place in the Manawatu Steeplechase tomorrow together with her stablemate, Triomphe. The two jumpers gave a good display over country at Awapuni yesterday.

The hurdlers, Grand Coeur, Saturnian, Dine and Dance and Kamina, all schooled well over the smaller fences, and Laramie ran a solid trial on the inside grass. The course proper was very heavy. Horses working on it did little better than 15sec to the furlong. Brevity and Triomphe schooled over a round of the country, with Triomphe just

leading. They have made pleasing progress since racing at Ellerslie. Brevity must be given a good chance. Grand Coeur gave a fast display over two hurdles before running six furlongs on the inside trial in Imin 17sec, the last three in 37sec. He will be at his peak for the Awapuni Hurdles. Saturnian and Kamina were given similar tasks. Saturnian took two hurdles in his stride and then ran six furlongs at three-quarter pace on the course proper. Kamina took two hurdles quickly and then took Imin 29 l-ssec for six furlongs on the course proper, the last three in 44 4-ssec.
