Imported Horse At Riccarton

Royal Student, a horse with something of an international background, has entered W. A. Welton’s stable at Riccarton.

Bred by the Greek shipping magnate, Mr Stavros Niarchos, from a mating made in the United States, Royal Student raced in England under the name of Student Prince.

He won in England, and also in Australia after being imported by the South Australian studmaster and trainer, C. S. Hayes. A few months ago Royal Student was bought by Mr W. E. Hazlett, who also has Hawa, another former member of Hayes’s team, at his

Chelandry Stud near Invercargill. Royal Student is a wellmade deep-bodied horse by Nasrallah or Princequillo from Record Serenade. He was trained in England by Sir Gordon Richards and at two years won a nursery at Windsor.

He won a sprint race at Epsom at three years before being sold to Australia where he raced 10 times last season for one win (at Moonee Valley), one second, one third, and two fourths. Royal Student is now six.
