Haughton’s stable made me an attractive offer to drive a team at the Liberty Bell Raceway, but I did not have the time to take it up. "The Americans are mad on New Zealand horses and will pay anything for a good one."

Tactile travelled better than most of the 24 horses on board the specially-chartered plane and was due to race when Cameron left.

"He ran a mile and a half In 3m!n 20sec, the last half in a minute, about a month after arriving, and settled in well,” Cameron said.
