WHISKY RATION
Strike Halts Supplies (N.Z. Press Association) AUCKLAND, June 16. The British seamen’s strike and the 1966 cut in import allocations are combining to cause a rationing by about one-third of whisky sales in Auckland. Brandy is also in short supply, although the rationing for it is not as tight as for whisky. The British seamen’s strike already had a powerful, if indirect effect, on local whisky sales, said the president of the Auckland Provincial Wine and Spirit Merchants’ Association, Mr D. W. Corban.
“With no new supplies coming in,” he said, “the merchants and wholesalers are having to preserve the supplies they have got on hand, which because of the import restrictions are already short.”
