Drought Relief Measure

(N.Z. Press Association) WELLINGTON, June 16. The Minister of Finance (Mr Lake) announced today that income assessments would be deferred where farmers in North Otago had been affected by recent drought conditions. The measure applied In cases: (1) Where farmers had been forced to sell livestock because of shortage of fodder or other factors arising from the drought, and the purchase of replacement stock had to be deferred until the first or second year after the year of sale.

(2) Where stock sold because of drought conditions was subsequently replaced by breeding, and where stock sold in the ordinary course of business could not be replaced because of the drought until the first or second year after the year of sale.
