N.Z. PLAYER IN AUST.’s TEAM

The selection of the former Canterbury player, M. J. Simons, in the Australian squash rackets side to visit South Africa this season is a tribute to the progress that he has made

in this sport in the last two seasons. Three years ago, in New Zealand, Simons could gain no higher than the No. 7 national ranking, but now he has been chosen for the national team of the strongest squash rackets country in the world. In spite of the non-availability of R. Carter and G. Hunt, the selectors have chosen a strong side headed by a former world champion, K. Hiscoe. Hiscoe is supported by C. Nancarrow, Simons and R. Ratinac. Since leaving Christchurch in 1963, Simons has practised hard and has gained much through playing in such good company. Almost single-handed he has lifted the Melbourne University team into third and second position in the last two inter-club competitions in that city.
