War Use Of Satellites (N.Z.P.A.-Reuter —Copyright) CAPE KENNEDY, June 16. The United States plans to hurl eight satellites into orbit today aboard a single rocket to try to improve military communications between Washington and Saigon.
Seven satellites are to girdle the earth, forming a communications network that may ultimately provide direct links between battlefields and the Defence Department A Titan 3C, America’s mightiest military rocket is to be launched at 2.01 a.m. on Friday New Zealand time. Carrying the seven 1001 b communications satellites, plus an eighth payload designed to test a method of using the earth’s gravity to stabilise spacecraft If all goes well, the rocket’s third stage will flip the satellites out one by one, into orbit 21,000 miles above the earth.
