HELP FOR EXPORTS
(Parliamentary Reporter) WELLINGTON, June 16. A new scheme designed to give greater incentives to most exporters of manufactured goods was announced in the Budget. A taxation incentive scheme introduced in 1964 had had considerable success, but it had become clear that there were anomalies in the way the benefits were distributed, said Mr Lake.
Some modification was needed to let manufacturers take full advantage of the opportunities provided by the free trade agreement with Australia. The old scheme would be replaced with a new one, giving a unifprm 15 per cent deduction from income to all exporters, for all qualifying increases in exports.
The new method of calculating the export base would be liberalised by defining it as the first three of the five years immediately before the income year for tax purposes. The new scheme would apply to all 1966-67 exports.
