Pound Gains In London
(N.Z.P.A.-Reuter—Copyright) LONDON, June 14. The pound gained in strength in the foreign exchange market here today after yesterday’s support promise from central banks throughout the world. The better atmosphere even over-shadowed the rather depressing trade figures for May, especially the Government’s disclosure that last month’s Imports Bill was the biggest ever.
After opening at 2.7901 U.S. dollars, the currency jumped ahead and kept well up throughout the day, closing at 2.7905 U.S. dollars.
Table Tennis Post. —The executive of the New Zealand Table Tennis Association has appointed Mr R. G. Lea as its representative to the South Bsland championships at Dunedin on July 29-30.
