Lamb Lipstick

Some useful advice was given the meat and wool section of North Canterbury Federated Farmers yesterday on the marking (for identification) of twin lambs, but members were doubtful about accepting it Mr B. H. Palmer (Hawarden-Waikari) had told the executive he thought Canterbury should have supported Southland’s complaint at the last Dominion conference about the shortage of a suitable branding pencil for marking twin

lambs. . Statistics showed the percentage of twins born in Southland flocks must be very high, Mr Palmer said, and the lack of a suitable crayon for marking them could lead to losses.

“We mark our lambs, and we use lipstick,” the chairman (Mr W. N. Dunlop) told him. “It’s very satisfactory.”

“But, Mr Chairman, that is not an approved brand,” Mr Palmer replied. .Laughter brought the discussion to a close.
