Huntaway Title To Southlander
Second in the South Island championship earlier in the day, R. D. Parsons, of Cheviot, with Corby, went on to win the New Zealand straight huntaway championship, when the national sheep dog trials were continued at Tai Tapu yesterday.
Only half a point behind him was M. L. Kerr, of Waikaia, Southland, with Dan, and third place was taken by E. D. Pratt, of Taumaranui, with Mark. In both the South Island and New Zealand events, Messrs Parsons and Kerr were the leading competitors. Mr Kerr took the South Island title with 97 points and Mr Parsons was second with 96. When the national was run off, Mr Parsons’s dog scored 96 again, giving him an aggregate of 192, while Mr Kerr’s dog dropped 2) points, his run of 94) giving him an aggregate of 191) points. Both dogs have won South Island championships previously. Mr Parsons’s dog is a plain black smooth-coated collie, aged 9, which won a championship when the national trials were held at Kyeburn, Central Otago. Mr Kerr’s dog is also in veteran class, being 10. He won a straight huntaway championship when the national trials were held at Lowburn, Cromwell. Placing, were:— South Island Straight Hunt-
